For the past eight years Riverview Chamber Players has performed string trio music for Mass General Hospital's staff appreciation holiday parties. What is wonderful about these events is that they take place during working hours so the music offers the staff a nice break from their routine. RCP performs during two lunch hour events as well as for the midnight shift. It is not often that RCP starts performing at 10 PM, but the people working the midnight shift have the opportunity to enjoy live classical music, too. For this shift, the musicians perform in the main lobby of the main MGH building so patients, their family members, nurses, doctors, and anyone else passing by are serenaded by the music.
A crowd circles around the musicians, some stay for just a minute or two and listen while others stay for 20 minutes or more. And those rushing on to other duties, to tend to or visit a patient, smile broadly as the music accompanies them down the hallway.
